Sales tax holidays to open August in Georgia, South Carolina

  • Follow Back to school

South Carolina’s back-to-school sales-tax holiday will be Friday, Aug. 1, through Sunday, Aug. 3.

The tax-free days, approved by the state Legislature, cover items such as clothing accessories hats, scarves, hosiery, handbags, footwear, and school supplies.

It also extends to computers, printers and printer supplies, and computer software, along with linens and some bathroom decor, such as bath mats.

Products such as jewelry, eyewear, cosmetics and furniture are among goods that are not included in the sales-tax holiday.

Traditionally, the sales-tax holiday has resulted in $3 million in foregone revenue, according to Bonnie Swingle, of the state Department of Revenue. Critics of the special sales-tax reprieves have argued the holiday doesn’t spur additional spending but instead shifts the timing of when people make their purchases.

Georgia’s back-to-school tax-free days are planned for Aug. 1-2.

I call sales tax free

I call sales tax free weekends "The Weekend of Hell on Earth" and I refuse to go to a store.

People are NUTTY during those sales. You'd think that they had never seen school supplies before.

Go Crazy

The same people that go crazy trying to save a few pennies are the same ones that will vote for SP"LOST" tax increase.
