The owners of the house, at 430 Congressional Court, were home, but no injuries were reported from the blaze, which took about two hours to extinguish, said Jeremy Wallen, a spokesman for the Columbia County Fire Department.

He said five fire truck crews, totaling 20 men, arrived at the home about 8:09 p.m. to find the second floor engulfed in flames.

The cause had not been determined late Wednesday, Wallen said. Firefighters at the scene said it might have been caused by a tanning bed, but Wallen did not confirm that.

There was heavy fire and water damage to the top floor of house and minor damage to the home next door at 432 Congressional Court, caused by falling debris, he said.

Columbia County tax records list the home’s owner as Henry W. Ferguson., and put its tax value at $419,434.

It is sad

when anyone loses their home becasue, they lose all of their family pictures and memories and no amount of money can replace that!! However, I am sure that they have insurance that will cover the house...I just wouldnt recommend getting a tanning bed this time!!

well if a tanning bed started

well if a tanning bed started it, thank goodness a person was not inside of it using it. Those things are like coffins...in fact, I heard a dermatologist refer to them as such!
