Troopers hunt for owner of ladder after crash

EAST POINT, Ga. — State troopers say they hope to use a bar code on a ladder to track down its owner, who could face charges in a deadly crash on a metro Atlanta freeway.

Authorities say the ladder in the road is suspected of causing multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead and two injured Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 285 in East Point, just south of Atlanta.

East Point police Lt. Cliff Chandler said authorities believe the ladder fell from a vehicle. He said one vehicle hit the ladder and became disabled, and then that vehicle was struck by the others, including a semi.

Georgia Department of Public Safety Commissioner Col. Mark McDonough tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that investigators hope to glean clues about who bought the ladder from the bar code.

I live in ATL

Unpublished

And if I had a dollar for every truck or work van that I see daily on the road with a ladder tied to it, I would be writing this from my own small island. Chances are the truck that dropped it has no idea that it is even missing because at times these trucks have 8-10 ladders on them. That bar code stuff is just scare tactics because the same bar codes go on every ladder of that size and manufacturer at every Home Depot and Lowes in the country.

Good luck.

Bar code is just so vendors can enter the item into their system to sell. Do not believe each bar code on each ladder is unique, or that the barcode could tell you when or where that particular ladder was purchased.
