Lasers hampering rescue attempts
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Coast Guard has sent a letter to local governments along the Grand Strand warning they may have to limit rescue activities along the northern South Carolina beaches unless they can stop the problems of green lasers being aimed at aircraft.
Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach have already banned the lasers, while Horry County is considering a ban.
The Coast Guard says it has had to abandon at least six rescue missions in the past six months. The green lasers are more powerful that other lasers and can temporarily blind pilots
Army’s top general to visit Fort Stewart
FORT STEWART, GA. — The Army’s top general is planning a visit with troops at Fort Stewart.
Gen. Ray Odierno, the Army’s chief of staff, will re-enlist more than 30 soldiers during his visit today and will meet with 3rd Infantry Division commanders preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.
