Hal Bruno

WASHINGTON — Hal Bruno, the longtime political director for ABC News and a political analyst who hosted a weekly radio program, died Tuesday at a hospital in Bethesda, Md., of heart arrhythmia.

For most of the 1980s and 1990s, he oversaw campaign and election coverage for ABC television and radio, where his duties included moderating a 1992 vice presidential debate. His radio program, Hal Bruno’s Washington, aired until his retirement in 1999.

Bruno also was a volunteer firefighter, and from 1999 to 2008 he served as chairman of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
