Five area families who welcomed new babies on Sept. 11, 2001, share stories that reveal the conflicting emotions that surrounded their children’s births.

“It made me feel like, was I even wrong for being so happy because I just had my firstborn?” Tandra Rolland said of her son, Barry Cody.

Others describe a moment of grace on a terrible day.

“I’ve always felt that she has a special purpose,” Melody Harsey said of her daughter, Alyssa Oellerich.

“It’s going to follow him, because it’s something no one is going to ever forget,” Latrice Burns said of her son, Jaquez Davis.
