'Chronicle' gives tours for 225th anniversary

As part of the celebration of its 225th anniversary, The Augusta Chronicle is offering tours of the News Building, 725 Broad St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.


To take a tour, check in at the Augusta Common 225 Tour Booth, then go to the lobby of the News Building and meet three characters from The Chronicle's past - John Erdman Smith, Patrick Walsh and Mary Carter Winter - who will lead visitors through the newsroom, plate-making areas and the pressroom.

Participants can also get information to take a self-guided tour that includes:

-Historic marker, 200 block of Fifth Street, east side

-Patrick Walsh Monument, Barrett Plaza, 800 block of Telfair Street, south side

-Chronicle display case at Augusta Public Library, 823 Telfair St.

-716-720 Broad St. (outside only)

-Marion Building, 739 Broad St. (outside only)
