Military life

The Army Wife Network is holding conferences designed to help families survive military life. Both conferences will also feature a complimentary taco bar and desserts, and gift bags and giveaways. Tara Cooks and Starlett Henderson, who co-wrote 1001 Things to Love About Military Life, are the featured speakers.

Register online at, click “Events” and “Register for Field Exercise.” Choose one of two sessions: 5-9 p.m. Feb. 29 or 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 1. Both take place at Gordon’s Conference & Catering, Building 18402, 19th Street and Brainard Avenue on Fort Gordon.

United Way

United Way of the CSRA’s 75th Annual Campaign is wrapping up and still seeking support. Through your contributions, United Way provides funding for 42 programs in the Augusta area, including child care, tutoring, counseling, job skills training, emergency services, health care for the medically underserved and senior companion assistance. To contribute, call (706) 724-5544 or visit uw- United Way hopes to receive all contributions by Wednesday, and final totals will be revealed at the annual meeting on Feb. 28.

Big scholarships

The Watson-Brown Foundation Inc. is accepting scholarship applications for 2012-13 awards. The foundation will award 200 scholarships to high school seniors and college undergraduate students. Scholarship awards are $3,000 or $5,000 per year for the student’s first four years of undergraduate studies. The application deadline is Wednesday. Senior Expo

If you are a senior, soon-to-be senior or senior caregiver, you are encouraged to attend Senior Expo 2012. This event is a chance to gather information from organizations that provide programs and benefits to senior citizens. Reservations are required. Asthma screenings

Kohl’s and Medical College of Georgia’s Children’s Medical Center are teaming up to provide asthma screening and education from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Kroc Center, 1833 Broad St. This free event is funded by the Kohl’s Cares program. Nurse scholarship

A fashion show and salad festival will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Henry Brigham Community Center, 2463 Golden Camp Road. Cost is $20 per person.The event is a fundraiser for a scholarship for a current or prospective nursing student, provided by Concerned National Black Nurses of CSRA.
