Columbia County resident (and former Augusta Chronicle outdoors editor) Rob Pavey stands next to a photo of students on the original Arsenal Oak. He donated the new Arsenal Oak, which is about 20 years old, to the school.
The new Arsenal Oak was grown from an acorn of the original Arsenal Oak that was collected by arborist George Barrett. In 1996 Barrett gave about a dozen of the tree seedlings to Pavey.
