Virginia motorist named in I-20 wreck

Workman at scene of Saturday fatal accident on I-20 in Warren County.

The driver of a van involved in a fatal I-20 accident Saturday morning in Warren County has been identified as Luis A. Matamoros Fuentes, 58, of Norfolk, Va., a Georgia State Patrol spokesman said Sunday.

A tractor-trailer driver killed in the same accident has yet to be publicly identified because his family had not been notified.

First responders were called to the accident involving a van and a tractor-trailer between mile markers 160 and 161, Warren County Emergency Management Agency Director Tommy Wolfe said. The 6 a.m. crash sent the van deep into the woods and overturned the truck.

The truck driver, who was from South Carolina, died at the scene.

Fuentes, the driver of the van, was airlifted to Georgia Regents Medical Center.

While trying to clear the scene, the driver of a wrecker truck was seriously injured when a tree fell on him. The driver, Buck Ansley, was flown from the scene with what Wolfe described as an apparent broken pelvis, among other injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol’s accident reconstruction team was called to the scene Saturday to investigate the crash.
