Georgia soldier wounded in Afghan attack that killed general

ALBANY, Ga. — A soldier from Georgia is recovering after he was shot during an insider attack in Afghanistan.

Army Capt. Jeremy Haynes was shot three times by an Afghan solider who killed Maj. Gen. Harold Greene. The Afghan solider was killed in a subsequent shootout.

Family members say Haynes was being treated this week at a military hospital. Authorities were trying to determine whether he could be sent to a U.S. hospital.

The victim’s brother, Jeffery Haynes, said he was thankful his brother survived the attack.

The 30-year-old soldier from Albany was deployed to Afghanistan in December. He worked as an assistant to Greene.
