For 83 years, the “South’s Oldest Newspaper” has helped the community share its holidays with a spirit of generosity inspired during the Great Depression.
In a season of abundance and joy, many area residents are not so fortunate. Those are the people The Augusta Chronicle Empty Stocking Fund hopes to help.
During the past decade, more than $1 million has been raised to help caregivers, the sick, the elderly and children. Last year, donations totaled more than $93,000, which helped more than 1,000 families and individuals through a difficult holiday.
The newspaper covers administrative costs of the charity so that donations go directly to those in need.
Donations are tax-deductible.
The deadline to return an application for help is Dec. 6.
