SRS workers affected by cyber-theft

AIKEN — Employees at Savannah River Site are among those affected by a cyber-theft of more than 100,000 identities of past and present employees of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Department spokesman James Giusti confirmed that SRS employees had been affected but did not have an exact number.

The department learned about the incident in July and notified employees Oct. 15. Officials say names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth were compromised.

Employees are being offered free credit monitoring for a year.
