ATHENS, GA. — Police say a 22-year-old man who leaped from the top of a parking deck in Athens and plunged four stories during a foot chase with police is expected to survive.
Athens-Clarke County police say Christopher Lee Porterfield, of Danielsville, jumped out of the Classic Center parking deck, struck a concrete retaining wall and landed on a ground-floor patio Thursday morning. He was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center. Police said his injuries weren’t life-threatening.
An officer began following the man’s car shortly after 5 a.m. Authorities say he entered the deck and sped to its highest level, got out and jumped from a ledge. Police said an officer tried to grab him but failed.
