Soul singer Sharon Jones was discharged Monday morning from a New York hospital where she had surgery June 11 for stage-one bile duct cancer.
An agent with the management company that represents Jones said that her next step has not been confirmed but that Jones could stay in New York for rehabilitation.
Jones, who was born in Augusta and moved back in 2011, said on her Twitter account Monday morning that she left the hospital and stopped at a restaurant to eat rotisserie chicken. She also posted a video of herself picking up the chicken.
She tweeted: “Finally leaving the hospital today to get serious about recovery. I can’t wait to eat some real food! #rotisseriechicken”
In early June, Jones, of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, announced that she had canceled plans for an album and tour in 2013 because she needed immediate surgery. Doctors initially said they expect the 57-year-old to make a full recovery.
