Bride hurt in crash upgraded to fair condition

An Augusta woman who was hospitalized after a wreck just hours after her wedding was upgraded from critical to fair condition Sunday, Georgia Regents Medical Center spokeswoman Jennifer Scott said.

Crystal Lynn Krentler, 35, was traveling with her husband, Brian Allen Orzechowski, 36, on June 1 when their Saturn SL1 crossed the center line on Washington Road near Wildwood Park around 9 p.m. and struck an oncoming vehicle, killing Orzechowski. The newlyweds were believed to be on their way to Pointes West Army Resort at Lake Thurmond.

Krentler was listed in critical condition as recently as Friday, Scott said. She was upgraded to fair around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

The driver of the other vehicle, Torvoy Curry, 35, was taken by ambulance to Doctors Hospital for injuries that weren’t life-threatening. It was later discovered that he was driving on a suspended license and had an open container in the car, Capt. Steve Morris said.

Curry will be charged with driving on a suspended license, and possibly charged for driving with an open container, Morris said.

Authorities waited to press charges until Curry was released from the hospital.
