An additional allocation of federal funds is allowing the CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority to accept more applications for its heating assistance program.
Beginning Monday. the public can apply to be placed on a waiting list while the program assists the remaining 550 elderly residents on a waiting list from its November application period, said program coordinator Patricia Johnson.
In November, low-income residents older than 65 were eligible for funds. New applicants must meet low-income requirements but are not restricted by age.
The authority was originally allocated $1.1 million in federal funds that was used to aid 2,451 households. Last week, additional funding totaling $2.1 million was received, which will serve 6,050 more households, Johnson said.
Applicants will be helped on a first come, first served basis, she said.
