A United States Postal Service employee and another person were taken to the hospital Thursday after a two-vehicle wreck at Washington and Gibbs roads in Evans.
The crash occurred about 11:50 a.m. as the driver of a USPS truck tried to turn left from Washington Road onto Gibbs Road, said Columbia County sheriff’s Deputy Mark Smith.
The USPS truck, driven by Richard Anthony Boone, 61, of Evans, collided with a Chevrolet Silverado traveling east on Washington Road, Smith said.
The traffic light had just turned yellow, but Boone told authorities he thought he could make the turn in time, Smith said.
It took about 20 minutes for emergency personnel to extricate Boone.
Mario Mitrate Hall, 38, of Warrenton, was driving the Silverado but didn’t suffer any injuries. His passenger, Quenswell Evans, 35, of Thomson, was taken to the hospital.
Both Boone and Evans went to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Smith said.
Boone will be issued a citation for failure to yield while making a left turn, Smith said.
