Heart condition blamed in groundskeeper's death

City groundskeeper found outside sheriff's office July 3

Autopsy results reveal that a city groundskeeper died outside the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on July 3 as a result of a pre-existing heart condition.

Cedric Singletary, 34, was found just after 8 a.m. lying outside the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center, 401 Walton Way.

Coroner Grover Tuten said Monday that Singletary’s death was heart-related and not heat-related. He had been doing lawn work when he collapsed.

He was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:33 a.m.

Singletary’s survivors include a wife and a 4-month-old child.
