Aiken begins voluntary water restrictions

The city of Aiken has implemented voluntary water restrictions after the South Carolina Drought Response Committee declared the area in an extreme drought.

All residents with an address ending in an odd number are advised to water on days that end in an odd number. Residents with an address ending in an even number should water on days that end in an even number, according to an Aiken Department of Public Safety news release.

The restrictions will remain in place until the drought lessens. The city will consider mandatory restrictions if the drought intensifies.

For more information, call the city’s Engineering and Utilities Department at (803) 642-7610.
