Bill would allow distillery samples

ATLANTA — The Georgia House has passed a bill that would allow distilleries in the state to pour samples for visitors.

House Bill 514 would empower the state to issue permits to distilleries for free tastings. The measure would limit samples to half an ounce per visitor daily.

State Rep. Culver “Rusty” Kidd, the bill’s sponsor, held up a bottle of clear liquid during debate of the bill and offered members of the House a sample of free, legal moonshine made in Georgia. He later said the bottle had water in it.

It now goes to the Senate.

Obama lost Georgia in the 2008 general election by 5 percentage points. It is the president’s first visit to Georgia in 18 months.

Police have lead on beating suspect

ATLANTA — Federal authorities say a third suspect in the beating of a 20-year-old gay man that was captured in a widely viewed online video likely is hiding in Pennsylvania.

Authorities say 17-year-old Dareal Damare Williams is in the Erie, Pa., area and FBI agents on Wednesday issued an alert for that portion of western Pennsylvania.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the Feb. 4 attack outside a southwest Atlanta store. Federal authorities have been investigating the attack as a possible hate crime because gay slurs are heard in the video.
