TEE Center construction expected to be complete in late summer

TEE CENTER

Construction on the $38 million project is expected to be completed in late summer 2012.

Bookings have been slow in coming since the completion date is uncertain, making the conference center’s success more hazy than was previously hoped.

In October 2010 it was announced that the Georgia Department of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities would hold its annual conference at the TEE Center in September 2013, still a year after the project is supposed to be finished. Peggy Seigler, the director of marketing and sales for the Augusta Convention & Visitors Bureau, said the TEE Center has two other groups booked for 2013.

Approval for the project came after years of bickering between Augusta Commission members, and a bribery case is currently awaiting trial in early 2012 involving attorney David Fry.

Fry is accused of offering commissioners Alvin Mason and Corey Johnson a 3 percent cut on profits from a management company if they approved the TEE Center parking deck.
