Augusta’s Christmas season begins Sunday with the Empty Stocking Benefit Concert, which will be held at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way, featuring the Augusta Concert Band.
The seasonal charity, begun by The Augusta Chronicle in 1930, raised more than $115,126 in 2010, which helped more than 1,200 families and individuals. The newspaper covers the costs of administering the charity so that all donations from individuals, organizations and businesses go directly to those who need them.
Many parents and caregivers unable to provide for their children depend on the charity. An envelope has been included in your newspaper today to help you make a donation.
Applications for help must be returned by Dec. 2.
