Wet paint party highlights Greater Augusta Arts Council annual membership event

Guests of the Greater Augusta Arts Council’s Wet Paint party will get to do more than just enjoy watching artists at work and purchase original pieces at the Julian Smith Casino on Saturday.

This year, guests can create art themselves and display it through Twitter.

The party starts at 7 p.m. More than 50 artists will display work for sale in a middle-eastern style marketplace.

Participants in the “Picture Me” contest can tweet photos of themselves with the art piece they hope to win during the art auction and post them to Twitter. The art auction features original work by local artists Jackson Cheatham, Kathleen Girdler Engler, Lucy Weigle, Judy Averett and Robin Raymond.

During the event, Sarah Pollack Searle, Billy S., Brian Stewart and Baruti Tucker will paint original pieces and Leonard “Porkchop” Zimmerman, Jason Craig and Jay Jacobs will collaborate on one piece. These pieces will also be auctioned. The artists will receive the entire asking price on their work. Any additional money raised will benefit the arts council.

A second Twitter contest, called “Girls on Film,” will take place during the runway-style fashion show. Guests will be invited to Tweet pictures of the show, which features fashions by Vintage Ooollee and hair designs by Modish Salon & Spa.

Prizes for both contests include VIP seating for the fashion show, VIP passes and free tickets for the Greater Arts Council’s Par 3 Party in April, and one year free membership renewal.

The Wet Paint Party is the annual membership event for the Greater Augusta Arts Council. Admission is free for members, and non-members may join at the door. Memberships start at $25.
