Up, down and all around. Augusta will be flying high and pounding the pavement at several outdoor events this weekend.
The 20th annual Boshears Skyfest at Daniel Field likely will draw more than 10,000 people Saturday and Sunday. Attractions include performances by aerobatic pilots and air show teams. New to this year’s event is a DC-3 aircraft that began service with American Airlines in March 1937.
The event also features carnival rides and a history tent where people can view aviation throughout the years in Augusta, said Augusta Aviation marketing manager Becky Shealy.
“We’re rich in aviation history, and people have no idea what’s involved and happened on this very land,” she said.
Tickets are $18 at the gate. Gates open at 9 a.m., and the air show runs from 2 to 4 p.m.
Two fundraising walks are also scheduled Saturday. The CSRA Parkinson’s Support Group is holding its Moving Day Augusta walk at the Wilson Family Y, 3750 Wheeler Road. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the walk starts at 10 a.m.
The Miracle Mile Breast Cancer walk begins at the Augusta Common, 836 Broad St. Registration is at 8 a.m., and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m.
