The James Brown movie bio Get On Up will be shown at Augusta’s Regal Cinemas on July 24, eight days before it opens in theaters nationwide.
Augusta Museum of History Executive Director Nancy Glaser confirmed the local premiere. A red carpet walk begins at 6 p.m., and the movie screening starts at 7 p.m., Glaser said.
The history museum will host an after party immediately following the screening, Glaser said. Proceeds from the events benefit the James Brown Family Children Foundation.
A manager at Regal Cinemas on Agerton Lane, who would not give her name, said two screens with 726 seats total are reserved to show the movie on July 24.
Glaser said the movie, starring Chadwick Boseman and directed by Tate Taylor, also will be shown in other cities before the national release Aug. 1.
Tickets for the movie cost $25, and $75 for the after party, Glaser said. But Regal Cinemas is not selling tickets for the early screening, according to the manager. No information was available on where tickets can be purchased, and it was unclear whether a public ticket sale will be held.
Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver announced the movie screening on his Twitter account Friday, but his assistant Al Dallas said the mayor’s office had no other information to share.
