Augusta engineering firm Promatex Inc. to be featured on HGTV show 'Elbow Room'

Promatex Inc., a local engineering and metal work design firm, will be featured on Saturday’s episode of the HGTV show Elbow Room.

The show, with host Chip Wade, helps families who have outgrown their homes through large-scale renovations and additions. It is filmed in Atlanta, and Promatex owner Thomas Koch said he heard from show producers a few months ago about working on custom iron work for one project home.

“I guess they didn’t have any luck finding someone in the Atlanta area,” he said.

Koch said the episode will showcase custom iron work including cellar doors, tables, desks and window panes made in the Promatex workshops in Augusta.

“It was pretty much the focus of the show,” he said.

Promatex will also be doing work for two episodes of the second season of Elbow Room, Koch said.

Because the show will give his firm visibility regionally and nationally, Koch said they were able to cut HGTV a deal. Their work is usually priced starting at thousands of dollars, he said, and in Augusta can be found in the Westlake, River Club, Jones Creek and Hammonds Ferry neighborhoods.

Koch is a big HGTV fan, he said, and he enjoyed being a part of the transformation.

“It’s nice when you see an empty shell and then the finished product,” he said.
