Aiken County native Rhett Walker receives first Grammy nod

Rhett Walker, the frontman for The Rhett Walker Band who grew up in Beech Island, received his first career Grammy nomination Wednesday night.


Walker is nominated in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Song category for his contribution as a co-writer on the band’s single When Mercy Found Me.

He was at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville when the nominations were announced Wednesday night.

“I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news. I’m blown away!” Walker said in a news release.

The Rhett Walker Band’s debuted its first album, Come to the River, in July at a concert and CD release party at the University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center.
