A fire destroyed an Evans home Wednesday afternoon.
Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue workers were called shortly before 1 p.m. to the house at 4165 Bridlewood Trail, in Bridlewood subdivision off Furys Ferry Road. No one was home.
A neighbor had seen smoke coming from the roof and called 911.
Firefighters found the two-story brick home engulfed in flames and moved in an aerial truck to fight
the fire from above,
according to Battalion Chief Anthony Lovett.
Though no cause was immediately determined, Lovett said it appeared the fire started on the second floor and quickly traveled to the attic.
Capt. Gary Griffith was not seriously injured when a piece of debris fell on his head inside the burning home.
Two dogs, found cowering in their beds under a shelf in the laundry room, were rescued and returned to the owners unharmed.
