Last week’s photo showed the latest generation of the Chevrolet Corvette. The C7 Corvette is known as the Stingray for 2014 and offers more amenities for what is still considered, in sports car terms, a fair price.

CANTON, GA.: David Anderson wrote: “With the very first Corvette appearing in this column a few weeks ago, it is only fitting that the next generation C7 2014 Corvette Stingray should also make an appearance.
“Based in part on the Corvette Stingray concept vehicle that we have seen plenty of thanks to the line of Transformers movies going back to 2007, the most notable aspect (at least for me) is the resurrection of the Stingray name.
“Evoking some of those same fluid lines exhibited by the original 1963 Sting Ray, this iteration is every bit as groundbreaking, even though the styling is not as radically different from the previous year. I am sure there will be some who will be disappointed it does sport the same split rear window as that original ’63 Sting Ray and the concept car.
“The C7 Corvette goes for a more subtle step in its evolution rather than a major leap. Thus far it has been universally well received – and with good reason.
“There is only one available engine, a 6.2-liter, 455-horsepower V-8, coupled to either a seven-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Together with the advanced engine management and Computer Assisted Gear Selection (that’s the technical term for that annoying first to fourth skip shift), this most powerful standard ’Vette ever offered, is rated at a very realistic 17/29 mpg.
“There are several rumors hinting that a 4.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 rated at 600 horsepower is in development for a Z06 replacement that will be even more capable than the current baddest Vette of them all, the ZR1.
“My next-door neighbor is a GM executive, of which I am so envious. He and several other GM execs and engineers recently spent a week in Vegas driving the new C7. They had both track and street time, with the directive being to put as many miles on the cars as possible, and after a 500-mile break-in, all bets were off.
“To GM’s credit, the cars were all seven-speed manuals. My neighbor had nothing negative at all to say about the car. I can hardly wait to see one in person.”

I was hoping they would of made it more nostalgia looking, like the old Sting Rays. Sort of like the late-model Camaros and Mustangs.”
