Pardon Our Mess: Shopping cart in river

The Parks and Recreation Department say they'll clear the cart.

WHERE: Savannah River near 10th Street

WHAT: A shopping cart is submerged in the Savannah River

WHO’S RESPONSIBLE: Items in the river are the responsibility of the Savannah Riverkeeper

ACTION PROMISED: The Savannah Riverkeeper could not be reached by phone but Darrell Bennett, the operations supervisor for Augusta’s Parks and Recreation, said he would send employees to clear the cart from the river.

“I’m sending some of my people to check it out this afternoon,” Bennett said Friday. “The parks and rec doesn’t own a boat, but we’ll do our best to get it out by land.”

If Parks and Recreation is unable to remove the cart by land, the Savannah Riverkeeper has a boat and will have to be contacted.
