Shooting in Columbia County

Columbia County investigators examine the scene of a shooting in Evans. An ex-boyfriend was shot by a woman who lived in the home after he fought with another man at the residence.

A Grovetown man was seriously injured Friday, police say, after his ex-girlfriend shot him after he assaulted another man in her home.

Dennis Wombles, 33, was shot in the buttocks after he went to the Evans home of Amber Roese Ford, 31, at about 2:15 p.m., according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

Ford was at her home at 1133 Highmoor Lane with Brian Frantom, 39, of Augusta. Initial reports indicate that Frantom was at the home to work on a computer, according to Morris. Wombles arrived and began fighting with Frantom. He assaulted Frantom and argued with Ford, according to Morris.

During the fight, Ford shot Wombles in the buttocks with a handgun, Morris said.

Wombles was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where his condition has not been released.

Ford and Frantom are in police custody and are being questioned, Morris said. No one has been charged in the incident.
