Augusta debris burning unlawful without permit

Richmond County Fire Department officials are reminding residents to not burn the piles of debris stacking up through the area after last week’s ice storm.

Chief Jason Beard, of the Fire Inspection Bureau, said it is unlawful to burn outside in Richmond County if you have not obtained a permit from the forestry department. With a permit, burning must be at least 100 feet from any structure.

Instead of burning, residents can put tree limbs and debris on the curb for pickup, he said.
