SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Two people have died in a fire in Spartanburg County.
The coroner’s office said one of the victims in the fire around 5:30 a.m. Sunday in the Cherokee Springs community north of Spartanburg was a child.
The names of the victims have not been released. Autopsies were being conducted Sunday afternoon.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger said three members of the family escaped the blaze and were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be serious.
Firefighters controlled the blaze in about 15 minutes.
Cherokee Springs Capt. Charlie Lea said the cause of the fire has not been determined. But Lea said it did not appear to be suspicious.
