Volunteers needed to drive cancer patients to treatment

Volunteers willing to drive cancer patients to medical treatment are wanted by The Lydia Project and the American Cancer Society.

An informational meeting and training session for the Road to Recovery program will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Daksha Chudgar Lydia House, 1369 Interstate Parkway. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.

The program helps patients who don’t own a vehicle, can’t afford gas, are too sick to drive, have no access to public transportation and no family or friends to help them.

Volunteer drivers must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record and own an insured vehicle in good working condition.

For more information, call Lee Hennessey at (706) 731-0152 or email lee.hennessey@cancer.org.
