Golden Harvest Food Bank competing to win Toyota minivan

Golden Harvest Food Bank is asking the community to help it win a new set of wheels.

Today, Golden Harvest is competing against four other charitable organizations to win a vehicle from Toyota. The 100 Cars for Good campaign will donate 100 vehicles in 50 days.

On each day of the 50-day campaign, five nonprofits compete on Facebook. Voters can choose two organizations they think could use a new car. The two tallying the most votes win a Toyota vehicle of their choice.

The three runners-up receive a $1,000 grant for their organization.

Golden Harvest has requested a Toyota Sienna minivan to help transport food and other goods throughout the large area it serves in Georgia and South Carolina.

“We have 30 counties we have to reach,” marketing manager Tanika Mason said. “We have our big trucks that are out there, but we need to get to our agencies and partner organizations in the far-away counties.”

In 2011, Golden Harvest won a Toyota minivan from the campaign.

Mason said the charity is spreading the word via social media to vote today. It relies heavily on people familiar with the Golden Harvest mission to encourage friends to participate.

“With as many people as we serve and the area we span across, I think Augusta is supportive,” Mason said.
