A bomb threat at the Academy of Richmond County prompted authorities to evacuate students to the football stadium Wednesday.
An anonymous caller phoned the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center about 2 p.m. and said “a bomb was going to blow up the school,” according to School Safety and Security Capt. Ted Brown.
Brown said students were evacuated to the stadium while bomb-sniffing dogs from the sheriff’s office searched the school.
When no device was found, students were released and buses took them home about 3:30 p.m.
Brown said the call could not be traced back to a working phone number.
“Thank God it was a false alarm,” he said.
