Car-fire engine collision blocks road

A fire engine collided with a car Thursday morning, briefly blocking lanes on Reynolds Street.

Battalion Chief Chris Reid said the ladder truck was leaving the fire station at Reynolds and 11th streets with lights flashing when it struck a vehicle in the outside lane of Reynolds Street.

Reid said that other vehicles had stopped for the fire engine but that one tried to “scoot by it” and was hit.

The fire engine was not headed to a fire at the time of the crash. Reid said the move from the bay to the side of the building with lights and siren on is part of normal morning operations.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but no one was injured.
