An Augusta poet, an Aiken nonfiction writer and a Martinez playwright were among the 12 winners of the 2013 Porter Fleming Literary Competition.
The Morris Museum of Art announced the awards Wednesday and will honor the writers at a ceremony on Oct. 6, the last day of the Westobou Festival.
Established in 1993, the competition recognizes outstanding works of fiction, nonfiction, plays and poetry from authors in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The competition is funded by the Porter Fleming Foundation and administered by the Trustees of the Academy of Richmond County.
The Porter Fleming Foundation was started in 1963 by Berry Fleming to honor his father, one of Augusta’s leading philanthropists.
At the awards ceremony, first-place winners will read from their works. Tickets are $10 for members of the Morris Museum of Art and $15 for nonmembers.
