Aiken County Council set to make final vote on Project Jackson tonight

Artist's rendering shows ballpark and development on North Augusta riverfront

The final vote on an ordinance to allow funding for a North Augusta riverfront development, including a new Augusta GreenJackets baseball stadium, is tonight.

The Aiken County Council will vote on Project Jackson during its regular council meeting. It begins at 7 p.m. at the council chamber, 736 Richland Ave. W in Aiken.

Last week, the county council voted 6-3 in favor of the second of three required readings of the ordinance. The vote followed a public hearing on the Tax Increment Financing district.

In addition to a baseball stadium, the Project Jackson development would include a 200-room hotel and conference center, restaurants, office and retail space, apartments and townhomes.
