A single-vehicle accident in the 2300 block of Ruby Drive claimed the life of an Augusta woman Tuesday.
About 4 p.m., Melanie Wallace, 43, of Maryland Avenue, lost control of her Mazda 626, which ran off the road and hit a telephone pole, according to a statement from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Wallace was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where she died of her injuries about 45 minutes later, Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose said.
The sheriff’s office’s Serious Traffic Accident Response team was called in to investigate the accident.
Boose said an autopsy will be performed in Newberry, S.C., Wednesday.
