South Augusta pipe break sends water 40 feet into the air

Peach Orchard Road has reopened after repairs were made to a broken water pipe that sent water soaring into the air for several hours this morning.

Deputies closed the area from Tubman Home Road to Gordon Highway shortly after 8 a.m. By that time, vehicles had been slowly driving through the water main that flooded the Barbara Street intersection and shot 30 to 40 feet in the air for nearly an hour.

Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Shane McDaniel said the pipe was broken by Georgia Power crews working in the area.
