1,400 gallons of sewage spill into Butler Creek tributary

A Butler Creek tributary was polluted by 1,400 gallons of sewage when a sanitary sewer overflowed.

The Augusta Utilities Department was notified of the overflow near 3635 Massoit Drive at 7:20 a.m. Monday. The minor spill was corrected by 1 p.m., according to a news release.

An accumulation of grease and debris in the sewer line caused the overflow.
