Serious injuries reported in Appling wreck

At least one person was seriously injured in a single-car wreck in Appling on Thursday.

About 4:20 p.m., a Honda sport utility vehicle veered off Ray Owens Road in front of North Columbia Elemen­tary School, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris. The vehicle ran through a ditch and hit a tree.

There were two people in the SUV – the driver, Marina Middlebrook, and a female toddler in the back seat, Morris said. Middle­brook, 27, was airlifted to Geor­gia Regents Medical Center, where she was in surgery Thursday night, Morris said. There was no further information on the toddler.
