Burglar breaks into 2 homes in 10 minutes

Augusta police are searching for a man who – in about 10 minutes Wednesday afternoon – broke into two neighboring houses on Shelby Drive, fleeing from both homeonwers and punching one in the face.

The suspect was described as a white man, 5 feet, 11 inches tall and about 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt, dark colored pants and gloves, a black hat and red shoes, according to an incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The burglar first pried open the front bedroom window of 2961 Shelby Drive about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, while the homeowner was inside.

When the homeowner saw him, the burglar jumped out the window and ran next door, to 2963 Shelby Drive, where he broke in and scuffled with its resident.

Nothing was stolen from either home. The homeowner at 2963 Shelby Drive was punched in the left eye and treated by a paramedic.

The suspect got away but no one noticed which way he ran.
