Ex-Citadel cadet says she was strip-searched

CHARLESTON, S.C. — A female cadet who has withdrawn from The Citadel has filed a complaint that she was strip-searched in her dorm.

The cadet went to campus police Monday and said the search occurred Friday after she had returned to her room from parade formation.

The woman said a colonel came in and asked her about a smell. A male cadet with the colonel suggested searching her.

The males stepped out and a roommate passed the cadet’s jacket out to be examined. The colonel then said her pants needed to be checked.

She took off her pants. The men stepped out while a female cadet checked her underwear.

The colonel said no problems were found.

Vice President for External Affairs Jeffrey Perez said the school is reviewing the woman’s allegation.
