A $100,000 contribution from Tognum America Inc., is the latest pledge toward Aiken Technical College’s planned Center for Energy and Advanced Manufacturing.
The proposed $8 million building will support the college’s growing radiation protection technology, nuclear quality systems, welding and mechatronics programs.
Other recent pledges and contributions include $100,000 from Shaw AREVA MOX Services, $60,000 from security contractor WSI, $50,000 from University Health Care System and $150,000 from Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.
The center also has received a $2 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, which requires a $2 million match from other sources.
Tognum America (formerly MTU Detroit Diesel) moved production facilities to Aiken County in 2010. The company is a supplier of engines and propulsion systems for ships and power generation systems.
