2 juveniles hit by car on Peach Orchard Road

A 5-year-old boy is dead after he and his teenage sister were hit by a car as they tried to run across Peach Orchard Road.

Kyron J. Doleman and his sister, Tyrah Doleman, 13, were crossing the road about 7:30 p.m. Monday near Bungalow Road to look for their 9-year-old brother while an older brother was shopping at Kervin’s Corner. The children were sent to the store by their mother, said Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Prickett.

Kyron and Tyrah stepped into the road near Kervin’s Corner on the north side of Peach Orchard Road, headed for the south side, and had almost made it across when they were struck by a brown Xterra driven by Brian O’Neill, 33, of Martinez. He will not be charged because the children were not at a crosswalk and darted into traffic, Prickett said.

Tyrah told Prickett she thought they could make it across, he said.

Both children were taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where Kyron died. Tyrah was in the intensive care unit Monday night, but her condition was unknown, according to deputy coroner Johnny McDonald.

Prickett said Kyron is the 12th pedestrian killed in Richmond County this year, and the 41st traffic fatality. Both numbers are higher than normal, he said.
