Richmond County sheriff's candidate Freddie Sanders out of hospital after dog bite

Richmond County sheriff’s candidate Freddie Sanders is recovering at home after being bitten in the face by his dog Friday night, his campaign manager David Fields said.

Fields said it was Sanders’ fault, and that he bent down to play with the dog and spooked him, causing the dog to bite his lip.

Sanders went to the hospital for what he thought would just be a few stitches but ended up in surgery after doctors decided they wanted to take a better look.

Fields said Sanders has a swollen lip, but is recovering quickly.

“We just want him to get better,” Fields said, “which he’s doing.”

Fields said Sanders does not blame the dog.
