American Red Cross sponsors family emergency plan event

The Augusta chapter of the American Red Cross is encouraging all local residents to prepare for emergencies by creating a family disaster plan during National Preparedness Month.

On Thursday, the Augusta chapter is sponsoring an event called, “Huddle up with the Red Cross to Develop Your Emergency Game Plan Day.”

The event will consist of two one-hour sessions, starting at 9 a.m. and at 6 p.m. at the American Red Cross Headquarters at 1322 Ellis St.

Attendees will receive preparedness tips and learn more about emergency preparedness in the local community.

“Everyone must be prepared to take care of themselves and their neighbors in an emergency,” said Michael Sommers, board chairman for the Augusta Chapter of the American Red Cross.. “No one can predict where or when disasters will strike, but preparedness steps taken today can save lives tomorrow.”

For more information, call the Augusta chapter at (706) 724-8481.
